Week 2 - Theoretical Prospectives and Research Methods

In reflection I feel that the subject matter we have read, discussed, reviewed and been quizzed on provides me with the basic foundation of what I will require to move successfully forward in Sociology 101. It has afforded me the knowledge to assess and gauge further studies and assignments in a more thorough and meaning manner. It is kind of funny, because I have already begun to become more cognizant of peoples actions, my interactions with them, the different cultures at the school, how they interact, dress, socialize, etc. Sociology is much more useful then I ever thought or imagined. I think I am going to enjoy this class :-)

  1. I very much agree with you that sociology is more useful in everyday life than I expected, and that almost immediately after learning something in class I find I am using it in my day-to-day life.

  2. I have been doing the same. When I see a different custom represent either in the television or in my daily life I analyze it in a way that can keep objectivity. I'm looking forward to learning more perspectives on sociological concepts and to further my knowledge on the different societies out there in the world.

  3. I feel the same way about this class, I also have become more aware of peoples actions, etc. Thats the best part of this class, we get to take what we have learned and apply it to our everyday lives.

  4. Greg, I am delighted to know that you feel that what you have learned about sociology thus far has also made you "more aware" of your surroundings. It is often common for us to overlook things that sociologists might consider to be fascinating and/or groundbreaking, even to the extent of developing a theory based on a particular pattern of behavior or interaction, for instance.

I hope that you continue to find the relevance of sociology to your everyday life and future aspirations. I also hope that you will find yourself enjoying the class overall. :-)
